DEXTER

Anyone who personally knows me, knows that I am a huge fan of Dexter!  The seventh season Emmy award winning show returns on Sunday September 30.  It has already been announced that there will be only one more season after this one.  This show will certainly withstand the hands of time.  Watch this show 5-10 years from now, and it will still be spectacular!  (Slight spoiler ahead.  Nothing major though if you have yet to watch this show.)

Dexter Morgan (Michael C. Hall) is a forensic scientist who works for the Miami Metro Police Department.  However, he is also a serial killer – but not just your typical serial killer.  Dexter only kills people that deserve to die such as: pedophiles, murderers, and rapists.  Dexter does not only kill these people, but he makes his killing experience a ritual.  He generally begins each ritual by collecting a small sample of their blood, so he can add it to the collection he keeps in a wooden box to remind himself of all the horrific people he has made disappear from the world.   

As a two year-old witnessing the murder of his mother, you could say that Dexter was born in blood.  Adopted by the officer who found him covered in a pool of his mother’s blood, Harry Morgan raises Dexter along with his biological daughter Debra.  Harry even favors Dexter over his own flesh and blood.  It is not known whether Dexter would have been a serial killer with or without the guardianship of Harry. 

Under Harry’s parenting, both Dexter and Deb follow Harry’s legacy in working for the Miami Metro Police Department.  Both Dexter and Deb are respected highly for the work they do.  Deb is a great cop, while Dexter is an amazing blood splatter analyst.  It is just that everyone knows about Debra, but do they know who Dexter Morgan really is?  Will they finally find out about Dexter’s “dark passenger” or will his secret stay safe?  Either way, season 7 should be a thriller!

Follow up on the Weeds series finale

I was hoping for an epic series finale, but instead I got stuck in a time machine that made the future look  like a bad seventies movie with technology.  The moment that the final episode of Weeds began, I knew that I was going to be in for a painful journey.  While I will admit that I have always wanted to see a series finale that showed the audience what happens to our favorite characters after the show ends;  I'm pretty sure I will never say that again.

Weeds Says Goodbye

On September 16 2012, a new episode of Weeds will be televised for the final time.  Viewers have been through the good, the bad, and the ugly with this show, yet they have always remained faithful to one of television’s all-time favorite families – The Botwins.  While there have been a few bad seasons, we continue to watch just to find out what Nancy will do next.  Weeds has been known to leave audiences speechless following each season finale, so what will Jenji Kohan have up her sleeve for this rollercoaster of a series?   

Nancy Botwin (Mary-Louise Parker) is a widow and mother of two that needs to support her family due to the recent passing of her beloved husband Judah.  Her deceased husband’s brother Andy (JustinKirk) decides to assist his brother’s wife in caring for her two young boys.   In order to make ends meet, Nancy begins selling marijuana to her suburbanite neighbors.  Nancy does not just sell any pot though…  She sells the best on the market, which has everybody wanting more and more.

Weeds is funny, dramatic, thrilling, and sometimes very disturbing.  However, it is real and authentic.  While this final season has not been very good, this last episode should be amazing, as the show looks to come full-circle.  These last two episodes of Weeds can make up for this lackluster eighth season.  I wish that the show did not have to go out with an “off-season,” however many television shows that last more than six years do the same.      

Breaking Badder than ever!

We are currently in what AMC and HBO more than typically call a "hiatus."  The fifth and final season of Breaking Bad was in full swing, until AMC announced that they would be splitting up the final season into two parts (IE: The Sopranos).  My guess is that they want to build up the anticipation, while reeling in new viewers as well.  I am sure that their plan is going to work, especially with people such as me praising the show immensely.  

If you do not already watch this show, you need to be!  I would definitely start from the beginning, so you can see how much the characters have evolved.  And what a coincidence...  You have just enough time to catch up, just before the series' conclusion.  If you currently watch this show, then you know exactly what I am talking about, and you are nodding your head up and down at this very moment.

In quick summary Breaking Bad  is a series revolving around high school chemistry teacher, Walter White (Brian Cranston).  Walter is diagnosed with a severe form of cancer, which is very costly to treat.  White needs to make enough money to pay for this unforeseen expense, as well as providing for his family, for when he is no longer around.  Let's just say that Walter White is not your average chemistry teacher turned meth producer and distributor.  With the assistance from one of his students, White steadily makes a name for himself as a highly respected crystal meth cook. He starts to be noticed by other dealers, as well as the DEA, for which is brother-in-law works for. 

What you just read is only the tip of the iceberg.  In this fifth season, Walter White is back with a vengeance without any symptoms of cancer slowing him down.  Walter wants what he is entitled to, and he will stop at no cost.  It has been an exciting 4 years, and I am sad to see this show go.  However, maybe it is going at the right time.  Extending shows with bogus seasons just to make the audience waste their time on a bunch of nothing is wrong, and so many shows have done it (IE: Weeds).  Breaking Bad is going out at just the right time, and with guns blazing.

For those of you who are not familiar with this show, or just do not have the time to get involved, you should make the time.  Breaking Bad may go down as one of the best dramas of all-time!  It’s reputation and loyal following are evidence enough.  

As with all of my posts, I will not include any spoilers or provide you with too much of an analysis of hidden meanings that may hinder your viewing of the show.  However, I am always willing to add my interpretation if asked to do so, which I hope I am.  I am always up for psychoanalyzing a brilliant scene!
